Black Queens to face Ecuador, Uzbekistan and Papua New Guinea in World Playoffs

Ghana’s Black Queens have been handed a demanding draw in the opening phase of the intercontinental play-offs for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. They will face Ecuador, Uzbekistan and Papua New Guinea in a six-team mini-tournament scheduled for 24 November to 5 December 2026.

The Black Queens missed out on automatic qualification after a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Malawi at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with Malawi going on to reach the final. Ghana then kept their World Cup hopes alive by coming from behind to beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the subsequent play-in match.

They will open their campaign against Ecuador, follow that with a clash against Uzbekistan, and close the preliminary phase against Papua New Guinea. The top two teams from this stage will advance to the final phase of the play-offs, where three remaining spots at the tournament in Brazil will be decided.
