Matchday 2: Gyamfi hit a hat trick for the miners, while Hearts win at the Dun's

Match Day 2 of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League delivered comebacks, a first hat-trick of the season, and a clearer early picture at both ends of the table. Hearts of Oak and FC Samartex remain perfect. Asante Kotoko and newly promoted AshantiGold are right behind them. Medeama’s league fixture was postponed because of CAF Champions League duty.

Hearts of Oak 2-1 Bibiani Gold Stars
The Phobians passed their first real test. Kwame Opoku put Gold Stars ahead in the 10th minute at Dun’s Park. Hearts waited until after the break, then struck twice in quick succession: Yaw Baafi equalised from a Kwaku Boateng Henry pass, and Boateng Henry finished the turnaround five minutes later. Six points, six goals scored, one conceded. That is the best start in the division. Gold Stars still have nothing after two games.

Asante Kotoko 2-1 Heart of Lions
Kotoko needed a win at Baba Yara and got one. Summer signing Emmanuel Mamah opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Isaac Opoku Agyemang made it 2-0 after the hour. Lions pulled one back through the penalty spot with Francis Odoom scoring to reduce the deficit but could not force a draw. Kotoko sit on four points and have ended a long winless run against this opponent.

FC AshantiGold 3-1 Vision FC
The standout individual display of the weekend. David Junior Gyamfi scored the first hat-trick of the new season, all before half-time, as the newly promoted side claimed their first-ever Premier League win at Len Clay Stadium. Sheriff Mohammed Iddrisu’s free-kick was Vision’s reply. AshantiGold now have four points from two games under Karim Zito.

Aduana FC 0-1 FC Samartex
Defending champions Samartex stayed perfect with a tight away win. Ebenezer Okrah capitalising on a goalkeeping error by Osei Prince to slot home the winner for the Timber boys. They join Hearts on six points and look organised rather than spectacular so far.

The rest of the card

Berekum Chelsea bounced back from their opening 4-0 hammering by Hearts with a 3-1 win over Dreams FC. Karela United did the same kind of job against Bechem United, winning 3-1. Swedru All Blacks edged league newcomers Debibi United 1-0 through John Josiah Andoh. Young Apostles got their first points of the campaign with a 1-0 win over Basake Holy Stars, Samuel Prempeh scoring the only goal.

Medeama SC versus Port City FC was postponed.
