Nkrumah’s strike sends Medeama top as Port City’s unbeaten run ends.

This one was always going to feel a bit late. Medeama had been playing catch-up since the Champions League pulled their league calendar out of shape. Dreams had already taken a point off them in one outstanding fixture. Port City were the last piece. Newly promoted, unbeaten, and arriving in Tarkwa with a reputation as one of the early surprises of the season.
For most of the first half, you could see why.
It was a tight, slightly stubborn game. Medeama had more of the ball. Port City stayed compact and refused to open up. Chances were scarce. It had that look games get when both sides are waiting for somebody else to make a mistake.
Then Kelvin Nkrumah scored in first-half stoppage time.
One goal, right at the break, and the afternoon changed. Medeama went in 1-0 up. The home crowd finally had something to hold. Port City had a problem they had not faced all season: they were behind.
They came out after half-time looking for a way back and never really found one. Medeama’s defence stayed organised. The visitors could not get a clean look at goal. Then it got worse. In the 66th minute Ransford Lartey was sent off. Ten men, a goal down, away to the champions, with more than 20 minutes still to play. That is a hard place to be.
Medeama did not try to be flashy after that. They did not need to. They kept the ball, won corners, and made Port City chase. The newcomers kept working, but the extra man told. When the whistle went, the points were staying in Tarkwa.
That 1-0 now puts Medeama top. Eight points from four games, level with Samartex, ahead on goal difference, still unbeaten. Port City drop to fifth on seven. First defeat of the season. It was always coming at some point. Losing it here, after a red card, will still hurt.
Nkrumah is having a useful week. He also scored in the 4-1 win over Basake Holy Stars at the weekend. Two important goals in a few days, and this one arrived when the game looked like it might stay 0-0.
Port City should not throw the afternoon away. Until the sending-off, they made Medeama work. That counts for something in a first season at this level. The question now is whether they bounce back quickly. First losses can linger if a new side lets them.
For Medeama the picture is simpler. The outstanding games are done. They are top of the league. The title defence, delayed by the continent, is finally in motion.
