Medeama clinch second Ghana Premier League title after 5-2 win over Lions

Medeama SC have officially clinched the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title after a dominant 5-2 victory over Heart of Lions at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium.

The Mauve and Yellow sealed their second league crown in club history with one match still to play, delivering a commanding performance in front of their home fans. Kelvin Obeng put the hosts ahead early before Heart of Lions levelled in the 40th minute. Obeng responded almost immediately, restoring Medeama’s lead two minutes later to send them into the break 2-1 up.

After the interval, the champions took complete control. Derrick Fordjour scored twice in the second half, while Prince Owusu added a late fifth goal to complete the rout. Etse Dogli converted a penalty for the visitors, but it proved little more than a consolation on a difficult evening.

Medeama’s outstanding home form was a decisive factor throughout their title-winning campaign. Under head coach Ibrahim Tanko, the Tarkwa-based side turned the TnA Stadium into a fortress, recording 12 home wins, just one defeat, 35 goals scored and only 11 conceded on home soil.

The triumph also earns Medeama a place in next season’s CAF Champions League as they prepare to represent Ghana on the continental stage once again.

Recent results underlined their consistency in the closing stages of the season, with victories over Basake Holy Stars and Bibiani Gold Stars, despite a setback against Berekum Chelsea and an MTN FA Cup semi-final defeat to Dreams FC.

Medeama will bring the curtain down on their league campaign away to Accra Hearts of Oak in what is expected to be a celebratory final fixture for the newly crowned champions.
